Reading through a recent post it struck me that there may be confusion about where "that little wire hanger piece" goes.
Here are some pics to show you instead of trying to describe it in a post. On looper engines that hanger can be installed between the pivot pin posts and create havoc. Make sure it is always installed so that it can rotate easily.

As the parts come out of the package.

Seat and seal assembled - needle and hanger assembled.

Seat in the carb body and completed float assembly ready to place. Small tab on float always faces the same way as the needle.

Image

Shows correct hanger position. Can be on the right or left.

Shot of the float height. Check fore and aft and from the side.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Pappy. That should help a lot of us amateurs.

Spring means dirty carbs. Once you crack the bowl loose you need to be careful that the float hing pin does not fall out. Hold the carb upside down until you get a good look at the needle, float hinge pin and clip. Tabs in the bowl are often the only thing keeping the hinge pin in place and it will fall right out on the ground once the bowl is removed. The whole contraption is hard to wrap your head around because the float needle literally just dangles from that tiny wire clip. I hang the needle on the float and set the assembled needle into the hole before I set the hinge pin so I don't loose the clip.
