Hey guys. Have a few questions and would appreciate a hand with if anyone would care to comment on. My first motor.
I've always paddled or used a trolling motor.
Motor: 1994 Yamaha 6 hp. 6MSHS
Been worked on by myself and a certified mechanic.
Took it out a few weekends ago and had no problems starting or running.
Only problem was I was way disappointed with top speed.
Boat:12' weld craft (12'10"), commercial tag. Pulled up a vehicle app with gpson my phone and showed 8 mph. I was hoping for 15. ( I know). It's a heavy boat and I had my pregnant wife at the bow. Our weights n combined cargo weight was in 400 lb range. Dunno boat weight as all I have is a tag that says commercial boat. The prop I believe is factory (Image) and I went through all pin/trim settings. Here is a short video of the trip.

I knew of a fuel pump problem but didn't think it was a major problem.

I know it's a problemthat needs to be fixed for safety issues if nothing else( that I will be fixing), but I'm wondering if it is a performance issue also?
I'm thinking both sets of diaphragms n gaskets?

Also I'm not sure if this is normal?

Thx for any help anyone can provide.

Adam

A lil push to the top in hopes of some feedback.
Gon order a fuel pump rebuild kit this weekend I suppose.
Sorry I can't answer other questions in this forum b/c I'm a mechanical idiot.

Need to fix the fuel leak. That doesn't appear to be proper fuel line either. If tightening the screws on the fuel pump don't stop the leak, you may need to look at a pump rebuild kit. It sounds like it's idled up too high. Does it clunk real bad or grind when you try to put it into gear? How wide is your boat? That will also have an affect on whether it planes or not but I'd be surprised if you could get that boat on plane with a 6hp.
