Not a combo with tach.

Power it off a switched hot. Use a cylinder head water jacket bolt to mount the sender. Scrape the paint off the water jacket where the tip of sender seats. Cheap insurance.

Just be aware that this is a lousy instrument if you want it to tell you if you just blocked your water intakes. By the time the gauge reacts the engine will be toasted. A water pressure gauge is much faster and will help you keep track of the integrity of the water pump.

Here's one that I've used on various OBs through the years. I too prefer using a water pressure gauge vs a temp gauge.

Also discipline yourself to look at it everytime you start up and glance at it when changing RPMs (as it will move) and whilst running ... soon it will be 2nd nature to glance at it quickly every so often.

Where would you get a water jacket on a 15 hp evinrude? I don't see a place on these motors to attach one.
