ON? and which direction? stop or fast? I noticed on a 15 hp johnson that I bought the other day the roller runs off the end the plate when you turn it to stop. If its in the fast position theres a stop on the shifter side of the motor. Its a arm thats controlled by the shifter arm.

Forgot that part lol. Its a 1965 evinrude fastwin 18hp. In the fast position the arm doesnt stop it, after looking at parts diagram there is a spring that pulls that arm in perhaps that spring has gotten weak. And damn that little spring cost $19
