fuel tank

A good EPA tank will vent when pressure exceeds I think 6 psi? I can't remember...but we had to test a slew of them a while back as part of a recall. A junk (mass market) tank will swell up like a toad at 3 psi, and I've had one split at the seam-stranding me in the middle of the lake (not even ment...

Your opinions?

Been in a few jon's over the last 30 some odd years. But that should be "a given" since I live in the aluminum boat capital of the world. 4000 acre lake "could" get a little choppy, or it might not. I'm sitting here at work looking across the way at a 4500 acre lake, which is on average 2.6 feet dee...

Console

Definitely doable. I've done a couple, not too hard. The worst part is the wiring and the steering. If it's anything larger than about 50hp, go with hydraulic steering. MUCH easier to install and once you drive it with hydrualic steering, you'll love it! It does cost a little more though.

Prop

The "consensus" with SS is still somewhat of a myth. If you hit something hard with aluminum, it's gonna bend or break a blade and it still can (easily) bend the shaft. If you hit something with stainless, it'll ding the blade(s), but it isn't as likely to destructively bend a blade, it won't break ...

Prop advice

With that 4 blade you might be able to lift the engine on the transom and it still bite (depending on the prop, hull, etc). The 4th blade generally will pull a MPH or so out of it, the extra blade has a little drag. I think if you could lift it a little and play around with the setup, you should see...

Prop

Yamaha owns turbo. That is why the "factory" white aluminum prop jumps from a 9" to 10 1/2". You can buy a 10" turbo hotshot which should be pretty close to what you're looking for. I'd expect to see 6050-6100 RPM with it, depending on weather and water conditions. It should be VERY close. Might eve...

Prop advice

Put a SS 3 blade 11" on it and it should pick up some RPM. Might even have to go to a 12" depending on how much it picks up. Going a little over 6000 is fine as long as it ain't on the limiter all the time.

Motor about to go into storage for a few months. What to do?

Dunno. Ain't "stored" a boat in, well, at least 20 years. Fish year round. February and early March are sometimes questionable but I at least TRY to go once or twice. Usually get a few crappie. Usually the owners manuals have storage information in them, so if you have an owners manual-or can get ac...

In boat rod holders/storage?

Bought some 6 place rod holders and cut them in half. River and zip tie to the seat braces. Been good for 3 years so far. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191001/7a045dfa0bdf13ac4b901c4c23708a2b.jpg Sent from my CLT-L04 using Tapatalk Pretty much the same setup I use, but I use 4 place-The only b...

Custom Aluminum Fuel Tank???

A lot of times you can check with a shop that specializes in custom racing stuff. I'm blessed to have 2 or 3 places locally, one a mile or so away, they'll make whatever you want within reason. The last time I had someone asking about this type deal, I made a "tank" (dummy) out of cardboard, taped t...

Maintenance and Upkeep G3 1756SC

Bunks? If you had to replace them, it's not that bad. Light may be the light itself OR the wiring.

Either way, if you can find an afternoon of free time, probably could knock it out in a couple hours if you work slow like I do.

Question regarding below freezing operation

Might be a little off-topic, but many moons ago I studied physics before I got sick. In class we observed the freezing and boiling points of water that particular day and the [odd] behavior of water while at atmospheric pressure, as well as at different pressures (from +100 psi to 400 micron vacuum)...

Retired to the Pond

Thank you for sharing the memories. Brings back a few of my own. Years ago I lived in a neighborhood of 2 houses. Ours and the one down the road about 2 miles away, it was a farm. Behind our house was about 8,000 acres of undeveloped land that some doctor owned and said we were fine to use it, just ...

Maybe bowfishing

I used to do quite a bit of competitive bowfishing. My co-angler is/was the world champ, so we learned quite a bit from each other. Granted we are only in our mid 40's currently (though I certainly feel much older). What I found the most success with is picking something in the 40lb draw with the le...

14ft Welded Jon

I looked at Weld-Bilt when I was boat shopping. One of a few things I didn't like was how BIG the ribs are. Gives me some more ways to get tripped up while moving from front to back or even side to side. They're really tall. If I were to put a floor in it, the height of the ribs would have put the f...
