Re: johnson 25hp

How about we start with the simple things first?? Right off the bat the engine was designed around and loves Champion plugs. Use them. Secondly, from the sound of it the engine may be running rich. Try leaning it down a bit at a time until it sneezes lean then fatten it back up a bit. The leaner yo...

Re: Trolling socks/buckets etc.

It slows me about 1mph while allowing me to throttle up about 100rpm ( I have a tach)..i tie it to my starboard stern rope and fish out the port side.

Re: johnson 25hp

It's a twin cylinder big bore engine.. if it doesn't actually die while trolling it's probably as good as it's going to get.
I recommend trolling with a drift sock or bucket so you can throttle up a bit, or invest in an electric trolling motor.

Re: Trolling socks/buckets etc.

I use 1 bucket behind my 16ft with a 30hp on it.. it allows me to throttle up the motor a bit because it shakes so much at low idle.

That looks like a nice boat for a 12ft.. the 63" beam is impressive, and wider than most.
I have basically the 16ft version of that boat with a 68" beam.

Re: Bow Mounted Trolling Foot Controlled from Stern

I do it all the time with my powerdrive v2 55.. I have clips on the gunnels for bumpers so I run the wire there rather than the floor. This year I upgraded to the cordless co-pilot set up, but I can still use the foot pedal if I want to.. I do find the steering too fast so the cordless fob is easier...

Re: Electrical nightmare

Guys,.... THANKS SO MUCH for all of your advice. So in summary,...how does this sound? Starting from the (+) battery terminal with 6 gauge wire, connect (+) terminal to (+) side of fuse block. From (+) access on fuse block, take appropriate size wire and fuse, attach it to toggle switch. From toggl...

Re: Question for 2 stroke guru's

Open the hood and look.. you will see the stator plate move, then the throttle will move on the carb.

I agree with raisedbywolves. I think you're close and it's all about trying different things at this point and seeing what works and go from there. My cav plate is 1" out of the water WOT, the water pickup is still completely submerged . My plugs look wet I may by running way to rich, should the pl...

Re: wires

Yeah, I just use split wire loom tubing: https://www.cabletiesandmore.com/images/gallery/thumbs/black-split-wire-loom.jpg X2. Split wire loom is good stuff, really cleans up the install.. but be careful!!! It will wear through metal if allowed to vibrate against it.. you wouldn't think that plastic...

Re: wires

I have just zip ties under the gunwale seat supports. Might look cleaner if you ran the wires through a hose. A good budget wire is booster cables. The come on sale cheaper than I can find plain wire. Sent from my CLT-L04 using Tapatalk I do the same.. and it's already color coded Sent from my SM-G...

Re: Propeller

I drag a bucket with 5/8 holes drilled in it so I can let it drain as I hoist it out of the water. My 30 mercury doesn't like the low rpm so it gives me a little wiggle room to idle it up about 100rpm.

Have fun buying a new motor
... that limits your options to Honda and Yamaha.. nothing wrong with a Tohatsu.
