Daily rant---DMV fees

AR doesn't do titles on boats or trailers and the registration fee is 3 years for $7.50 (although they did make some changes to the process this year that should help cut down on boat theft). The trailer license is a lifetime of the trailer plate that cost like $8 I think (too many years ago). I als...

Hard starting 20HP Mercury

That primer system uses a diaphragm to give a squirt of fuel to the carb. If the little plunger isn't stuck (as mentioned above) it could be a busted diaphragm. So check to make sure it's actually getting that shot of fuel into the carb.

WOT RPM range for 25hp Mariner

I have what I believe to be a 1984 Japan built Mariner 25hp. I believe the stainless prop that is on the motor is the wrong size and lugging my motor at WOT. But so far I have been unable to find the recommended RPM for WOT. Currently it runs at 4580 rpm and I suspect it should be something like 500...

Fisher Water Rover complete rebuild

I've got a 77 model water rover that is almost identical floor plan. Only real diff I see at this point is the front drink holder and trolling motor mount are on the opposite side to what mine are. I had to all but replace the transom on mine once I removed the wood and saw all the corrosion.

Short and log shaft Outboard Question

If it's a short shaft it should be something close to 15 inches from the top of the clamp where it rest on the top of the transom when mounted to the large plate just above the prop. Long shaft that measurement will be closer to 20 inches.

Have you checked to see if you can find the hull ID number. Should be on the transom (usually outside right side) if it has one. May not have one if it's old enough or if someone removed it.

Any Evinrude Zephyr experts out there?

I tried to go to the Ask-A-Member and as soon as I clicked on "new topic" it took me to the sign in screen and requires you to sign in for that now. Seems as though they have gone a bit overboard with their attempts to eliminate bots. Not sure how they expect to get new members if people can't figur...

Any Evinrude Zephyr experts out there?

It's taken a bit longer than expected but I finally have this little motor moved to my house and started to work on it as we're seeing some nicer temps to let me work outside. I've started to clean and inspect it, but I have some doubts/questions about parts of the motor and how to disassemble. I tr...

Fuel system vent

I'm having a problem with my fuel system. When you first connect the fuel line and start to prime it. As the fuel flows from tank to carb, the air has to vent. Is the carb bowl vent the only place that happens, or is there another vent somewhere?

All I want is one afternoon with one! :LOL2: Well you've got the duration right. Several years ago I spent an afternoon playing around with a little 2 man version. Not sure what brand it was but a guy I know showed up at the local airport with one. We all took turns running it around the airport. N...

SnapPower thoughts?

I'd be interested in knowing how long they last first. I mean how long before the bulbs burn out on the night lite, or the circuitry of the usb charger. I'd also like to hear how much power they consume, although that should be pretty low, but just to verify. But both are great ideas.

Jaguar Crossbow

I've been using a Horton 150# since the early 90's and never used anything on mine that was designed to quieten it down. So far I've never had one duck under my bolts but there have been some that squatted enough that it made my shot a little high. I even managed to shoot two deer out of a group of ...

If a tree falls in the forest ...

You'd be surprised how quietly something like that goes over. Once the base turns to sponge it doesn't make any noise. And that's a tree not a branch. I was thinking along the same lines as GTS225 in that it would probably take too long for a tree standing vertical to fall on a deer before the deer...

My new-to-me percussion inline!

Dale, you call this an inline, but it's not really an inline is it? I thought by definition, an "inline" meant that the ignition spark, whether from a percussion cap, a 409 primer or whatever, was inline with the barrel and not at a 90° or some portion of that angle to the barrel.

Even if there aren't any others that practice the same hobby, it never hurts to post pics of some of your handiwork. So post some pics of some of the things you've made. I know I'd like to see them.
