Plugging Hole Where Livewell Used to Drain

I'm reworking an old boat. I removed the livewell. It had an overflow drain hose that exited through the side of the boat, just above the waterline. There was a PVC screw-together drain hole fitting in the side of the boat. Once the fitting was removed, I'm left with about a 1.5" hole in the side of...

Why is my motor missing? Video

Back pressure was the ticket.

I put some fresh gas in, dropped it level, and used a barrel instead of muffs. Runs great.

I put the muffs back on to see if maybe it was just the gas. Nope. It immediately started missing on the muffs.

Why is my motor missing? Video

My plan is:

New gas with just the right mix
New spark plugs
New ignition coils
New plug wires

Parts are on order. I'll report back when I put them in.

The motor currently has a new fuel filter, a good clean carb, good fuel lines, new impeller .... and seems to run strong except for the miss.

Why is my motor missing? Video

I have a 20HP 2 stroke 1987 Mercury that seems to be missing.

Any ideas? You can hear it missing in the video.

Need wise advise on purchase of new 25hp outboard w/tiller

I don't think those specs are right. A 2018 1754 Grizzly is max rated at 75HP according to the Tracker website. And that boat hasn't changed in a number of years. I see older ones running 40 and 60 hp motors all the time.

New to tiller motors and I got a question or five...

You might not like this advice .... but I'd ditch that motor and get something newer and already working well. I only say that because I've spent countless hours in my barn fiddling with old small outboards .... and spending way too much money and time tracking down and buying parts .... only to hav...

Ethanol and old motors.

I use ethanol free when I can get it... but if I can't, it doesn't stop me... ethanol gas probably hurts newer motors more.... lots of rubber and gadgets on those.... but that 56 will burn it without too much worry... not much can go wrong on a motor that crude... It might have long term effect on ...

You can't go wrong with a Crestliner. They are widely considered the gold standard in aluminum boats. The Kodiak has an awesome layout!

Need wise advise on purchase of new 25hp outboard w/tiller

I'm a HUGE fan of finding a reputable dealer close to you, and buying a fully serviced clean used motor that is the max HP for your boat. A 1754 Grizzly is a pretty big boat. A 25HP will plane you out, even with multiple guys and gear, but it will do it slowly and I'd guess give top speeds in the lo...

18'-19' All-welded V-hull Tiller?

I know you are set on a welded hull, but some of the higher end riveted hulls these days are really really good, G3 being one of them. Heck, there are tons and tons of 30, 40, and 50 year old riveted hulls still running dry and solid. Personally I think hull thickness and construction quality have m...

G3 makes a good solid boat.

The guide series is exactly what you're looking for. If you look around you'll find used ones for pretty cheap too.

Post a pic of your Boat!

I picked this up last Friday. I've been wanting a tunnel hull jet for a long long time. The bass on the Susky are in trouble now! https://cvws.icloud-content.com/CAEQARoQESKOrnN2Vdr940HEM2PugA/01d4441fe28d4d97c3173b108924abd1fa6d712d8d/IMG_0004.JPG?v=0&z=https://p28-content.icloud.com:443&x=1&a=BtSm...

Forward mounted side console?

I guess it depends how big you are. But more than likely you could balance out the weight by moving batteries and fuel around.

Have you considered a stick steer boat? They allow you to sit in the center, up front, without sacrificing floor space.

Brainstorming floor support

I've done it. It's a fine idea. It will work great .... and is fairly easy and cheap to do. Good to hear. If yours is easily removable, could you provide a pic of the underneath side? Did you place yous on the ribs, or directly on bottom? Sorry, sold the boat years ago. The ribs ran side to side, s...
