How bad is this impeller?

If that's the impeller that's been it this summer it honestly doesn't look that bad. Wouldn't hurt to sharpen it but I've seen a lot worse impellers and liners being used. Did they change the seals and the water pump impeller or the jet pumps impeller?

5052 or 6061??

I'd use the 5052. Pretty sure that's what some boat builders use. 5052 will bend more then 6061 before breaking.

impeller work

Lemi your motors new enough it should have the cut back impeller in it which explains why your getting 5500rpms. To me things like polishing or lightening a impeller, or a twister nut by its self won't be much of a noticeable gain but a bunch of small things added up should lead to a gain of some so...

Lemi I not trying to start a war on this either just stating what've I found out over the years from testing and tuning. You're right there is room for improvements in test and trying things.

impeller work

Thanks moelkhuntr. Sorry to hear about your luck with the boat. This isn't the first time I've heard of someone having trouble with Weavers work in the past few weeks. He might gain some people but I've not been impressed with what work I've seen. Lemi what year is your motor? Reason I made the comm...

So how many rpms are these 4s with 7 3/16" turning? You said you had impeller work done, did Terry do your impeller?

impeller work

I have seen folks running a 7 3/16 in a 60/40 merc 4s running pretty darn good I think there are a lot of tricks out there if a guy is willing to play with them Sorry but I'm calling BS. Maybe on a built 2 stroke 60/40 merc but not a 4 stroke. They can't pull a standard 6 7/8" up to rpm let alone a...

Has anyone ran the 4S SS impeller in a 2S

This is what I'm basing my conclusion on. Look at the distance marked by the red line and compare it to the pics of LarryMC's pics. It's a 4S impeller. I've seen the 4S impellers in a number of different finishes including freshly ground like they'd just finished grinding a 2S down  .

Has anyone ran the 4S SS impeller in a 2S

redrum, I enlarged your photo to show that the leading and trailing edge of each vane are almost directly across from each other, just like the 2s. On the 4s, the trailing edge has been cut way back to allow it to spin easier. I believe you have an original quicksilver 2s casting which is why your ...

The 4 stroke impeller will be fine in your 2 stroke. Might even be better considering you have the 52cube merc. I've got a friend with a 56cube omc and he's running a 4 stroke impeller and there's not much difference rpm wise maybe 200rpm nothing crazy that's going to over rev a stock motor. Plus th...

Mercy 60/40 4 stroke squealing

You might check to see if your impeller nut has backed of letting the impeller drop down rubbing the liner. I've seen them do that before and they do make a squealing noise. I've heard of people having bearings go out and the impeller dropping, but the bearing I've seen go bad have just bound up wit...

Hull dents

Depend on how bad the dent is, might put a straight edge on the bottom of the boat to see how much hook you have. When eyeballing the bottom of a boat you normally don't notice hook as much as a big dent but they both hurt top end especially on a 40/28. Post some pics. Only other thin I could think ...

4 stroke 60/40 on 1648 River Rhino with UHMW??

You might be able to save your impeller, or at least make it little better. Attached a pic, trim it down like the red line shows and I think that should help it out. I've had impellers sharpened like that that cavitated on holeshot and I trimmed them like the pic and they hooked up better. I' not ev...
