Re: 1955 Evinrude 7.5 Fleetwin - busted pull cord

Remove the handle. You will not find a handle/cord "assembly". The rope has to be a specific length, no shorter. The rewind spool has to be wound a specific number of turns before the rope is added and the spool is allowed to retract. If you install a rope that is too short and the rope comes to th...

Those springs will definitely try and eat you every chance they get!

I take it that is a No, not interested in the Elgin? Pretty good looking little engine.

Re: two stroke oil

You can use the 30 in that engine just fine. No need for the 50. Your ratio is perfect.

Re: Vintage outboards

Thanks but no vintage Mercs for me. The price seems on the high side as well. If you decide to get into vintage and antique you will know what I mean.

Re: Vintage outboards

I have a better idea. Why don't you come over some time. I have a two-cylinder Elgin that needs a new home as it was given to me by a widow in hopes the engine would be brought back to life and enjoyed. It is all there as far as I know and is not stuck. I have too many engines that I will never get...

I also use a 3-gallon, on a 3-cylinder Johnson 25hp on a Gheenoe. Can't run forever but it gets me where I go and back every time with plenty to spare.
Of course...mine is a steel tank but this was to reference range not tank issues.

Re: New EPA fuel tanks

That is a good find!
May also fit some of the antique "square tanker" engines as a float inside the carb. They were that shape and pretty large.

Re: New EPA fuel tanks

The AOMCI show is held at the old airport/park in Tomahawk. The runway parallels the river or lake shore. The swap meet/show takes up pretty much the complete length of the old runway. There is still a hangar there as well that doubles as an ice rink during the winter I think. The boats and engines...

I am heading up your way end of July and first week of August to Tomahawk for the national meet for antique outboards.
LOVE the weather up there compared to Central Florida.

Re: New EPA fuel tanks

First off....I rec'd your private message. Thank you for that but I was not offended in the least. I settled on Tin Boats because it is a small forum filled with folks who do a pretty good job distributing "good" information. I am lucky enough, through a great education and career, to be able to gi...

Re: New EPA fuel tanks

The claim of the op is about as false as it gets. Wives tales passed on by know-nothing boat ramp experts. Right off the bat you apparently know absolutely nothing about the inner workings of a pressure tank. The pressure tanks had pressure relief valves built into them and they worked and they sti...

Re: ‘66 9.5 Johnson Starter Rewind

If it is the same part number it is the same part and yes that is the issue. Now....what has probably happened is that someone before you broke the starter rope and rather than replace it they shortened it. If you get to the end of the rope before you get to the end of your arm pull parts will brea...

Re: mid to late 60's 9,9 sea horse

If you do not have the proper tool to remove the shift rod bushing you can always tap it and remove it with a long screw. Your choice whether or not you replace afterward....they are still available. The threads will not alter the pilot properties of the bushing and the O-ring is doing the sealing ...
