Nice boat covers for cheap!

Nice find...$53 to ship here. Still a pretty good deal. With my boat being a modV,wonder if I should get the jon boat one or the bassboat style? Which one did you order? I got the Jon boat version and I have a mod v boat. It fits pretty good. I trailered it 120 miles this weekend and it did fine. I...

Nice boat covers for cheap!

Just received a boat cover I ordered for my tin boat. It was an odd lot sale from iboats. Original price was between $200-$300 and I paid $60. It is sharkskin semi-custom with an attached motor cover. It is also trailerable. I have had several covers for my various boats and this one is the best and...

Project Pequod build thread

Use KiwiGrip for inside finish. I used it on my build and it is durable and provides really good traction. The amount of abrasiveness can be increased by rolling over it a second time 5 mins after initial application. I used light gray which turned out to be almost white. I recommend a little darker...

Boat Cover Bows

]After struggling for months to keep my boat covered in such a way as to shed water and not have pockets of water collect in the cover, I made some bows out of tent replacement poles that I picked up years ago on clearance at Academy. The hard part was coming up with some way to attach the bows to t...

Custom Flat 1654...under construction -Maiden Voyage! 09/29

Alrighty, I have been on two fishing trips in my recently completed Custom Flats Al boat. Some observations and things I would do differently if I were to do another boat project. 1. Kiwigrip is awesome but... I would choose a little darker color next time because it looks dirty with just some light...

Who makes the best 14 foot jon boat?

Take a look at the CustomFlat Al boats. .10 thick and all weld. I just finished mods on stark naked CustomFlat hull. I little bit heavier but built like a tank. Here is a link to my mod and to the companies website. http://www.customboatmfg.com/Product/products_main.html CustomFlat's site http://www...

FishmatePro Warning!!! Do not Trust These Guys...

Ok, I ordered one about 6 months ago and got it in about 2 weeks. But I did take one that he happended to have on hand at the time. When I got it I was a little disappointed with the quality control. It had a small leak at on of the welds in the bottom and hinges were ground down too far and part of...

Minn Kota onboard charger (2 bank)

I just installed an on board charger for my AGM batteries. Minn Kota 2-bank. Questions is can I just connect to bat terminals and leave all else connected to bats as well? I know I should not be running any electrical stuff while charging but do I need to disconnect things from the battery before ch...

Custom Flat 1654...under construction -Maiden Voyage! 09/29

By the way, what is a rivnut and where can I get some? 270 A rivnut is a rivet with threads down the center. I used 1/4" parkerized(rust resistant) steel rivnuts to attach the TM base to the deck. I used Al rivnuts in other places on the boat. All seem to hold very well. I will take pics and post t...

Custom Flat 1654...under construction -Maiden Voyage 09/29

Maiden Voyage!!! Whole family wanted to go on the shake down trip. Boat did great. We spent about 1.5 hr on Taylor Lakes in Seabrook,Tx. I had a lot of weight on board with 4 grown people but I was still able to get her to 29+ easily. With a little tweaking on the jackplate and trim I am betting I g...

I am wanting good floor coating cheep

KiwiGrip is what I used. It can cost as much as $125 a gallon but a gallon will go a long way. I did a lot of surface on my boat and I have 1/3 gallon left. It seems to be very durable stuff.

Custom Flat 1654...under construction -motor installed 09/19

Ok, I have the motor installed (1984 Mercury 50hp w/ tilt and trim). Motor installation went smooth. Hardest part was when my son I were lifting it onto the jack plate. She started right up after I switched the kill switch to the run position. She fires with just a bump of the key now and pur...

Aww, just turn one on your metal lathe  I have made a couple of parts for my boats using my lathe and mini mill. May not have save me any money but I enjoyed doing it. Seriously, it would be pretty easy to make something like that if your knew tpi.

Where is a good place to buy inexpensive 12V lights?

I got mine at Academy. They had some on clearance. last time I looked they still had some but most that were left were amber in color and are now 16.99. I got mine at the time for 6.99. They are oval with white or chrome bezel and have 3 LEDs. I put 4 in my boat as courtesy lights. They are water pr...
