How to value a parts motor

Just thinking about taking on a calculated risk on motor. My goal would be to take a low compression motor and get it running good but want to have a back up plan if it turns out to be a can of worms. It's a 2013 mercury 60 if that makes a difference. Thanks for advice. Sent from my SM-G973U using T...

Wow. Cool project. Glad you got a better trailer for it.

Re: Engine height question on 16ft Jon Boat

I'm trying to tinker on this exact issue. My boat has a Jack plate AND the pt130 trim so the setback is near 10 inches! I worry the rooster tail that occurs at some speeds is because of the two large adjustment nuts on the bottom of the jack plate. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190718/b38dc1ef...

Re: Engine height question on 16ft Jon Boat

For not much money you could try the motor higher but add an aftermarket hydrofoil to prevent that blowout. Does it plane quickly?

And a stainless prop would be nice but may not be the answer.

I also dig the "suicide" seat in the bow.

Check out six gill reels. $40 is a bargain.

Awesome ! Teamwork makes the dream work!

Trailer looks new. Maybe some guide bunks on the side would be nice. What a gem of a motor that is. I don't know many that want to work on etec outboards! Good for you!

Re: Sad News

The new ones are just too comfy not to wear them. And I fish in Texas summer heat no problem.

And the kids are too important to me. Image

Try a thermacell when the wind isn't blowing hard. And the lightweight pants that zip on half way down the leg. The academy brand ones are decent for the price.

That's when you mix it up and bring the catfish to you. Drop a burlap bag of cattle cubes or cheap dog food. I don't believe I have ever tried to catch catfish and been skunked.

Great progress. If you need to keep the neighbors awake a little longer and slow down on picture posting we will all understand!

I'd like to know where you got that retro seat at.

Is the motor tuned and ready for the trip?

If he is asking $1k, then he isn't tired enough of fooling with it. Bottom line is it's a 30 year old motor that doesn't work. You might end up with more money in it than you think.

Re: My 2nd boat project - 14ft Alumacraft Semi-V

As of last night I got the 4 main floor section pieces coated with adhesive and then got the carpet put back on and secured down. It was pretty messy, so didn't get any "action" shots, but just used a trowel and let the adhesive get a bit tacky, then set it face down on a pre-cut piece of carpet an...

Re: New Member Introductions!

As my handle points out, my name is Dave and I'm in Texas. I've boated and fished all my life and actually grew up in Michigan and moved to Texas in 1978. In my youth I was always on the water whenever I got the chance and spent most of my time on Lake St. Clair. I never owned a boat during those d...
