Re: Additives - Ring Free vs. StarTron?

Seafoam has worked well for me as a cleaner. I have "fixed" several small engines using a stout mix with seafoam.

Re: New old 1648

X2 on the registration. Paperwork first. Then absolutely fix it. Even if you have to spend 4-500 on welding it up, I think it's worth saving. Paint it up and go fishing!

Re: Ouatchita 16' semi V transom repair

I've seen these old ouachitas. Good boats but transom definitely not designed to be serviced. Your best bet is to enlist the help of a local aluminum welder. The transom caps will have to come off and zip off the top of the transom at the top corners. You should be able to slide new board in and rep...

They look right side up to me but can you get any farther away? Lol. Look like Google earth pics! Anyway, should make a cool boat.

Re: Must add items for onboard tool boxes.

I keep duct tape, adjustable wrench, pliers, side cutters and a screwdriver. I go over my boat at home, have an trolling motor as a back up. Only going to be able to do simple repairs on the water such as prop or a loose wire or a loose fastener. Anything else is going to require parts I don't have....

Re: Help With 1967 Harber Craft AL Sailboat Identification.

Very little information out there. Harber mfg still operates in fort Erie but no boats anymore. I emailed them once hoping for some history but no reply. I had a 14' Harber craft which I sold and I currently have a 12' both good solid boats. Yours is the first sail boat I've seen Sent from my CLT-L0...

Re: Essential Items For First Aid Kits

I carry duct tape. You can make a bandage or a splint etc using tape and a piece of t-shirt. It's overly simple but has worked well for me over the years. Every year we take a 3 day backcountry trip using the boats. Duct tape always on board.

No sound for me either. Use YouTube for video and paste the link in your post. And yes, clean that carb before looking for something else.

Re: 20 HP - Honda or Mercury

Yes Tohatsu and Merc are the same up to 30 HP. Really comes down to the dealer. Is there a good dealer that you trust in the area? I'm sure they are both good motors, really can't go wrong with any of the new motors. Buy one and take care of it. If I was to go out and buy a new motor right now, I'd ...

Re: 20 HP - Honda or Mercury

When you head over to Lion's Head, stop in Alvanley at Tigwell marine and ask them about the Tohatsu 20. They rig them with a console steer on 16' boats. I've seen them zip along with 3 guys in them.

Re: CC V SC

Depends on how many people you take. On a side console layout, your buddy can ride beside you and a couple behind/in front depending on size of boat. With the center console, unless you're real close with your fishing buddy, they will have to ride either behind or in front. The center is nice for th...

Re: 20 HP - Honda or Mercury

The 20 Tohatsu/mercury is a strong motor. Don't know anything about the Honda's but the Tohatsu is an overachiever. Lots of people happy with them.

I use the seat tops as a level gauge. Most times the seats are level on the water.

Re: motors on canoes

I run a 2 hp on a side mount and it works good. Not sure how you would reach the motor if you mount it out past the rear tip. Wouldn't be hard to fab a mount though. If you want to run a 4, get a square back. They are made for motors and built a little more rigid. A regular fiberglass canoe will fle...
