Re: Side imaging and shallow water. Perfect combo.

Not sure if you're trying to get a good SI image while on plane, or if you're referring to a sonar readout. but SI image on plane will never happen. Chart speed should match boat speed in MPH for a good SI readout. I just need the depth reading while on plane (sonar). In the sonar image it shows a ...

Re: Side imaging and shallow water. Perfect combo.

I didn't see the caption that those were alligator gar on the right initially and was wondering what I was doing wrong that you were able to see such detail in shallow water! Very cool images just the same. For some reason this one spot has large alligator gars. I've seen some 3 feet long come to t...

Re: 3.5hp to 5.5hp

I actually have a Nissan 3.5 and a 1964 Evinrude 5.5 fisherman. On a 12ft lowe jon the 3.5 will do around 8-9 mph. The 5.5 will do around 13 mph. Those old evinrude/Johnson motors are great. Still plenty of parts for them. My 3.5 is a two stroke and very easy to carry around. On the Evinrude/johnson...

Side imaging and shallow water. Perfect combo.

I have never thought spending much for a shallow water fish finder was a good idea. The area covered in 3-7 feet of water just wasn't much help fishing. My new side imaging is worth the extra expense. I find myself just trolling around watching the bottom. I'm still experimenting with the transducer...

Re: Picked up a 1971 6hp Evinrude Fisherman

Those little old evinrudes are the best. Here's my 1964 5.5 fisherman. I believe it was the last year you had to pull the power head to change the water pump impeller. Dang it!

Re: GPS Shuts off when starting gas motor UPDATE WITH SPECS

Put a new battery in and unit no longer shuts off. Watched the volts while cranking and didn't go below 11v.

Re: GPS Shuts off when starting gas motor UPDATE WITH SPECS

Any update on this? Hate to say it again, but you guys don’t have enough ampacity in your battery cables ... On mine, I have an 8 ga 5ft length (duplex, marine) going from the battery to the marine fuse box. Then FF connected to that. Battery is connected separately with factory cable. I watched my ...

Re: GPS Shuts off when starting gas motor UPDATE WITH SPECS

Just made my first run with my new helix 7. Had the exact same problem. It will shut off when starting and will not restart. I have to pull power cable and plug back in. Then it will turn on. I was able to put the unit in standby mode, start motor and then out of standby mode with no problem. Any up...

Re: Extending trolling motor battery wire

When i removed the starter battery and moved the TM battery to the front of the boat i found it was cheaper to use long jumper cables with the clamps cut off. it was a heavier gauge and i didnt have to run 2 separate wires. i feed it through PVC conduit and it was good to go. That is what I'm runni...

Re: Extending trolling motor battery wire

Other than the terminal ends, you don't need anything "Minn Kota Specific". And even the terminal ends can be found easily. I got ALL of my wire, terminal fittings, etc. from https://tinnedmarinewire.com/wire/ when I wired my boat. Zero issues with anything in the 6 years since I wired everything u...
