Can I use this boat?

wish i had seen this post earlier. a friend had these growing up. we used 4 to make a floating lake house on an island in the middle of his pond. first thing to understand is that they are not boats, and don't function well as a boat. they are designed to sit stationary in the water and support a ma...

small boat ID and transom questions

an after market jack plate would be the proper way to handle the height problem. Extending the plywood transom upward without extending the transom aluminum and aluminum cap upward as well, will just create a weakness at the crease where the 2 boards come together. and any torque from the motor will...

How do you secure your outboard?

I've currently got padlocks run thru the eyes of the mounting screw hardware so a thief would need a pair of bolt cutters to jack my motors. I've seen the metal bar ouboard locks that install on the hardware too and look like a good investmet at $20-30. most of the time my boat is parked in a friend...

Need advice on painting 12 foot boat.

bedliner is heavy. It would be good on the inside because it's super durable, seals leaks and provides good grip when wet but it does add weight. I would not put it on the outside, at least not on the bottom because of the texture. I guess you could line the inside and halfway down the sides too. I ...

12 foot semi v safe for 3 people

I fish my 12ft semi v with me and a buddy, both in the 160lb range, and my 11 year old. It's good on the calm electric only lakes and I can stand up fishing all day, but the big lake gets too sloppy for all 3 of us.

Leaking seams with video.

Is the channel at 0:31 and 1:50 the same? if so mine has that channel that runs down the keel underside the boat and has that weep hole at the back.. It is a lil different than yours as I don't have that huge gap inside at the front. When i filled mine i had a leak dripping from the channel too, I c...

Hello Everyone

We installed a breakaway from PacificTrailers.com on a friends trailer. all we did was cut the tongue halfway between the jack stand and hitch, paint cuts to prevent rust, and install the hinge brackets on the 2 pieces. He's got a big glass boat so it would be strong enough for yours. Welcome to the...

Spar Varnish or Urethane?

replacing the transom on our tinny, reading about treating the wood i've seen the terms "Spar Urethane" and "Spar Varnish" used interchangeably for sealing boat woods. They seem to be a different product with the same outcome? is there a difference?

Bilge Pump Question

The highest flow rate that fits your budget would be the best choice. A bilge being a safety device will only protect you up to just below it's "actual flowrate" of incoming water. i say "actual flowrate" because I've never seen a bilge run anywhere near it's claimed rate of flow. worst case scenari...

yeah, that custom transom saver has to be a solid $50 option too
and the rod holders that can't be used while the fish finder is mounted gets a +1

Interior light color

I am going to go red to match my boat (black and red) red is the longest spectrum of light so it's less visible from a distance compared to the others. many animals can't even see it(ducks can) blue is one of the shortest wavelengths and easy to see from a distance. green is the most reflective and ...

flooding inside of boat works

I found quite a few of my leaks this way, including a hairline crack in the solid aluminum that didn't show up while it was floating. but... My boat has a keel rib on the outside that runs the length of the boat and is attached to all the rivets, it has a drain on the backside, so all the water of a...

possibly dumb question about trolling motor as primary motor

I would take mine apart to look at the throttle system but the Varimax is a varible speed and won't be like 5 speed trans mount models that click. I would assume that the regular 5 speed (click)controls are based on a resistor. low speed = high resistance, full throttle = no resistance. the same way...

I really don't think his boat is moving much faster than my buddies 18ft stratos with the 80# bowmount maxed out.
